NC Prez Deuba holding all-party meeting for new power-sharing today

KATHMANDU: Main opposition Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is holding a meeting with the top leaders of the opposition parties on the formation of a coalition government on Wednesday.

President Deuba had called an all-party meeting yesterday itself but it was postponed for today after NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel took exception saying that the meeting was called without discussions in the party.

To be held at Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha today afternoon, top leaders of CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) have been called to the meeting, said NC Deputy General Secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat.

President Deuba had held a meeting with former and incumbent officer-bearers of the party yesterday.

NC, Maoist Center and JSP have intensified meetings to form a new government after Prime Minister KP Oli lost the vote of confidence in the parliament on Monday.

President Bidya Bhandari has given a three-day deadline to the opposition parties to stake claim on the new government. The deadline is expiring on Thursday.

The JSP has been divided over the formation of the new government.

The opposition alliance cannot form a new government without the support of all JSP lawmakers.
