NC becoming undependable due to factionalism, leadership’s arbitrary actions: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the party had become undependable due to factional politics, party President’s arbitrary actions and whimsical decisions that also showed disregard towards the party’s statute.

Addressing a program of handing over responsibility to the NC’s newly elected working committee in Sundar Haraincha Nagar of Morang Monday, Dr. Koirala said, “The situation is such that we come to know that a certain change, be it suspension or addition of an article, has been made in the party rules, regulation and statute after we use Facebook.”

Dr. Koirala, who is a candidate for NC Presidency in the upcoming 14th general convention, slammed the NC’s incumbent leadership for inconsistent actions and decisions. He added, “Local level conventions are being held with district-wise differing regulations. The leadership’s ultimate goal is to capturing the party and maintaining total control.”

Recalling that there was never an instance of a convention held by mobilizing security personnel in NC’s history, Dr. Koirala said the recently held convention in the party president’s district Dadeldhura in presence of security personnel was an unfortunate incident.

Koirala also said the NC President and Prime Minister’s collusion with the Chief Justice had also put democracy in peril. He rued that NC president, who fought for democracy, had begun to trample on the principle of separation of powers.

Likewise, also speaking on the occasion, Tej Prasad Sitaula, a former invited central member of the NC, said that the party had fallen into the hands of the mafia and that there was a need for cleansing within the party.
