UML seeks clarification from govt regarding Motipur incident

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has demanded clarification from the government regarding the incident of killing of squatters in Motipur Industrial Area of Rupandehi.

Speaking at the National Assembly (NA) meeting Monday, CPN-UML Parliamentary Party (PP) Chief Whip Khim Lal Bhattarai said Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand of being a mute spectator when squatters were killed in his home district.

“Today is Dashain for others, but tragedy for squatters. The Home Minister is also of the same district, what is he thinking?” Bhattarai asked, adding, “On what basis is the Home Minister still assuming office? It surprises me.”

Four people were killed when police opened fire on squatters in Motipur area of Butwal sub-metropolis Sunday. Lawmaker Bhattarai said the incident raised question about the Home Minister’s ethics.

He also demanded an impartial investigation into the Motipur incident, arrangements for the treatment of the injured and compensation for the deceased.
