KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two women on charges of being involved in human trafficking in Siraha Saturday.

The arrested have been identified as Lalita Chaudhary, 28, of Kanchanpur Municipality-11, Saptari, and Usha Devi Malah, 35, of Dhangadhimai Municipality-1, Siraha.

According to police, they were intercepted at Choharwa of Naraha Rural Municipality while they were taking two young women from Nepal to India to hand them over to traffickers on the other side. The victims being taken to India were aged 16 and 19.

Chief of Area Police Office Mirchaiya DSP Rajendra Shrestha informed that initially, the arrested promised the victims high-paying jobs at Lahan Ashram. After that, they told the two victims that they would get even more high-paying work at Janakpur and were taking them there. The victims were being taken to Madar of Siraha from Choharwa, where police intercepted them.

Police are investigating the racket by approving remand for the arrested from Sirahah District Court on human trafficking charges.
