Won’t back down from race to NC presidency: Dr. Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala has said that he will not back down from the race to presidency.

Talking to media in Chitwan Saturday, he reiterated that he would be the party’s presidential candidate at the party’s 14th general convention. “When did I back down? I am just trying to be consensus candidate,” he said.

He said that it was a compulsion to amend the general convention schedule, noting that the local level conventions were underway, to resolve the active membership dispute that still existed in 21-22 districts. He added active membership dispute  would be resolved soon.

On a different note, Dr. Koirala said the chaotic nature of communists was confirmed by Friday’s incident in the parliament. “Though it is duty of the opposition to protest, Friday’s acts undermined the dignity of parliament.”
