Wednesday's session of province assembly postponed after Pokhrel's resignation

BUTWAL:  Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan has accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Shankar Pokhrel submitted to him on Wednesday afternoon.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the province chief’s office said that the chief minister’s resignation has been accepted and that the current cabinet would be in office until another cabinet was formed.

Pokhrel, who was appointed as the Chief Minister in accordance with Article 168 (1) of the Constitution on May 2, resigned on Wednesday. He resigned as a special session of the province assembly was about to begin to discuss the no-confidence motion registered against him.

After CM Pokhrel’s resignation, the province assembly meeting has been postponed on Wednesday.

A no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Pokharel was tabled in the province assembly on Wednesday. However, after the resignation of the Chief Minister, the proposal was not taken for discussion and decision.
