KATHMANDU: The investigation committee formed to probe the incident related to the ‘leaking’ of the question papers meant for the exam for selection in the UN peacekeeping mission, has recommended the dismissal of three and departmental action against 11 police personnel.
According to the sources, the investigation has found the involvement of the members of the examination committee in the question leakage. Sub-Inspector Janak Bahadur Thapa, a member of the examination committee formed for the preparation of the question papers and conducting the examination by the UN Section of the Police Headquarters, was found involved in leaking the question papers.
The investigation committee report has mentioned that Thapa gave question papers to Sub-Inspector Keshav Karki who later gave it to Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Karki, an examinee. Keshav works at Metropolitan Police Circle Thimi whereas Ashok works at Nepal Police School Sanga.
The report has recommended departmental action against 11 personnel including UN Peace Keeping Mission Division SP Anupam Shumsher Rana, SP Bed Bist, DSP Rupesh Khadka and Sugandha Shrestha.
2400 police personnel including ranging from recruits to senior officers had attended the pre-SAT exam conducted on Friday and Saturday.
Earlier, an investigation committee led by DIG Basanta Lama had booked three dozen police personnel into the investigation and brought the investigation to the final stage.
“We have reached the final stage of the investigation in the issue. So far, we have questioned 30 people, including two DSPs,” DIG Lama, who is the coordinator of the investigation committee, said.
According to a member of the committee, DSP Basudev Pathak of the UN branch, DSP Rupesh Khadka of the training center, Inspector Dinesh Pun and others are being investigated on suspicion of involvement. DSP Pathak and Khadka are examinees.
The examination was conducted at the Police Headquarters and seven Province Police Offices on July 30 and 31. A total of 2,400 candidates ranging from the recruit to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) participated in the examination.
According to Police Spokesperson SSP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, the question paper was leaked. The investigation has found out that the question paper was leaked two days prior to the exam date.
