Details of UML task force’s 10-point unity deal

KATHMANDU: The UML task force formed to resolve the intra-party dispute has endorsed a 10-point deal to immediately end the intra-party dispute and strengthen and protect the party, given party workers and well-wishers across the country are worried about the disagreements that have surfaced within the party in recent times.

The task force has proposed the following in its 10 points:

Point 1 of the deal notes that the internal disputes of the party went beyond the party and the task force agrees to move forward by resolving such disputes within the party in a lawful manner.

Likewise, party structures, and people’s organizations at all levels of the party would be restored as on May 16, 2018, in accordance with the provisions of the political resolution and constitution passed by the UML’s 9th National General Convention. Point 2 also included the agreement to nominate members in the Central Committee.

Point 3 cancels all decisions regarding political and organizational activities of both the factions that are not in line with the party’s statute after the revival of the CPN (UML) through the Supreme Court (SC)’s March 7, 2021, decision.

Point 4 welcomes former Maoist Center leaders’ decision to remain in the UML after the SC nullified the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and revived the two erstwhile parties. In this relation, such members joining the UML will be assigned the responsibility and committees to which they were a part of when the NCP existed.

Point 5 agrees to nominate comrades making significant contributions to the Central Committee (CC) but the number cannot exceed 10 percent of the total number of CC members.

Point 6 commits to make suitable decisions, within legal and organizational framework, on the issues of dissolution of the House of Representatives and the government.

Point 7 proposes to form a task force to solve the problems that may arise in the process of re-activating the party structures and people’s organizations and to give suggestions regarding membership renewal, general conventions and conventions at various levels.

Point 8 states that all above points will be presented to the Legislation Assembly, as necessary, by organizing the assembly at the earliest.

Point 9 is about promoting unity, activism and dignity by operating the party, parliamentary party (PP) and people’s organizations in a methodical and systematic manner.

The last point seeks to make a request to the chairperson and general secretary to immediately convene a meeting of the Standing Committee for the implementation of the task force’s recommendations.
