Police intervene in the civil society demonstration

Dozens of demonstrators arrested



KATHMANDU: Police have intervened the Singha Durbar centered protest organized by Brihat Nagarik Andolan and arrested dozens of civil society leaders on Sunday.

Demanding action against the irregularities in health education sector, the civil society movement organized under the banner of Brihat Nagarik Andolan held a Singha Durbar March on Sunday.

The police interrupted the protesters when they reached near Southern Gate of Singha Durbar.

Dozens of demonstrators including writer Khagendra Sangraula, Prof. Sanjeev Upreti, Narayan Wagle, Bimal Aryal and Archana Thapa were arrested by the police.

The participants demanded action against those involved in corruption and irregularities in Dharan based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

Police have taken the arrested civil society leaders to Mahendra Police Club, Bhrikutimandap.
