SC order aggravates citizenship issue: JSP Chair Thakur

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Mahantha Thakur has said the Supreme Court (SC)’s stay order on citizenship ordinance aggravated the issue of citizenship.

JSP leaders are miffed at the interim order that put brakes on the citizenship ordinance, which was issued with their perseverance. The SC interim order was delivered in a writ petition filed against the issuance of citizenship ordinance.

Addressing a function organized Friday in honor of Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Raj Kishor Yadav, Chairman Thakur said it was wrong for the SC to stop the ordinance as the ordinance was also law.

He reminded that the bill related to citizenship had been stuck in the parliament for the past three years. He pointed out that the lack of citizenship created problems for citizens in course of employment, education, trade and business and deprived citizens of government services.

He also urged the newly appointed ministers to work by coordinating with each other on the occasion.
