Speaker Sapkota holding all-party meeting on HoR dissolution today

KATHMANDU: Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has called an all-party meeting to discuss the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) today.

To be held at the Lhotse Hall in federal parliament building, New Baneshwor at 2 pm, top-notch leaders of the political parties represented in the parliament, Prime Minister and former prime ministers have been invited to the meeting, informed Speaker’s secretariat.

According to sources, the meeting has been called to know the views of the political parties on the latest political development even though the agenda has not clearly been mentioned.

Letters were dispatched to all the top leaders of the political parties represented in the parliament on Wednesday itself for the meeting slated for 2 pm Friday.

Speaker Sapkota is holding discussions with the political parties for the first time after the President dissolved the HoR on the recommendation of the government on May 22 and announced mid-term polls for November 12 and 19.

CPN-UML, Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM), Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) are represented in the parliament.

Earlier, on May 25, Speaker Sapkota had held discussions with the former speakers and legal and constitutional experts on May 27 on the dissolution of the HoR.

Issuing a press note on the very day when the HoR was dissolved, Speaker Sapkota had termed this move as anti-democratic, and against the spirit of the Constitution.
