Some 300,000 devotees to visit Pashupatinath today

KATHMANDU: Unlike previous years, this time, the Pashupatinath is not wearing a glittering look. It has been decorated in a low profile manner.  We cannot see a lot of garlands around the temple nor can we view main gates decked out as lavishly as before.

The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) said it has reduced its budget for decorations and food since a few number of sadhus and devotees are expected to visit Pashupatinath from India and other areas of Nepal this year.

“A small number of devotees will visit Pashupatinath on the day of Mahashivaratri this year due to COVID-19,” said Pradeep Dhakal, the member secretary of the PADT.

According to him, around 300,000 devotees are expected to visit Pashupatinath this year. Over 100 sadhus have already arrived at Pashupatinath and some sadhus will arrive by Thursday morning.
