Mohan Baidhya calls for unity of republicans, democrats

KATHMANDU: General Secretary of Nepal Communist Party (Revolutionary Maoist) Mohan Baidhya has called for unity among republican and democratic forces.

Addressing the strategic alliance of four communist parties organised in the capital city on Thursday, Baidhya said that people’s regime was needed in the country.

Arguing that unity of all revolutionary communists was needed, Baidhya mentioned that establishment of people’s republic and socialism is still awaited.

Saying that a joint front was needed to fight for the cause of nation’s independence and people’s rights, Baidhya said that efforts are on to that end.

On the occasion, Baidhya also demanded that the government immediately release the arrested cadres of Biplav-led Nepal Communist Party and relax the decision to impose ban on the party.

Also speaking at the programme, Chairman of Nepal Communist Party Rishi Kattel said that unity among communists was needed with new mindset and they were committed to forming such an alliance to establish people’s regime.

Similarly, coordinator of Scientific Socialist Communist Party Ahuti argued that new revolution was needed as people have not realised changes in the country. He was of the argument that restoration of the House of Representatives (HoR) was not sufficient for changes.

During the event, Nepal Communist Party (Revolutionary Maoist), Kattel-led NCP, Biplav-led Nepal Communist Party and Scientific Socialist Community Party Nepal endorsed the document on alliance’s concept and structure while forming a 15-member strategic joint alliance.

As part of the phase-wise programme, the alliance is organising mass meetings in Butwal, Kailali, Dhangadhi and Itahari until March 2.
