Fall of Oli-led govt certain: NCP leader Ram Kumari Jhakri reacts after being released (with video)

KATHMANDU: Leader of the Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Ram Kumari Jhakri has been released on Thursday evening.

Police had arrested Jhakri by handing over an arrest warrant under the ‘act of treason against the state’ from her Shankhamul-based residence at 1 pm today.

She was kept at Metropolitan Police Crime Division in Min Bhawan for around five and a half hours.

According to police, she was released in the presence of her husband Pashupati Puri.

Talking to media after release, she responded that there was an attempt to tear down the constitution promulgated on the achievements earned by the people’s struggle.

Jhakri added that she has no remorse arguing that she spoke about the conduct of the person rather than the institution.

Stating that she was arrested in an attempt to abuse her for playing a role in the rise of the anti-regression movement, Jhakri said she was released under pressure from pro-democracy activists.

“No charges were filed against me. I was arrested for political revenge. The move seems to have been aimed at harassing me as I presented myself strongly in the anti-regression movement,” she said.

She added that fall of Prime Minister KP Oli-led government was certain.

Police had arrested Jhakri after the All Nepal Women’s Association of the PM KP Oli faction had handed over a memorandum to Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa last week demanding action against Jhakri.

The association had demanded to arrest and take action against her for ‘tainting the character of President Bidya Devi Bhandari’.
