Army beats Biratnagar 7-0, stays in second

KATHMANDU: Sharmila Thapa and Bimala BK both scored a brace each as Tribhuvan Army Football Club (TAFC) defeated Biratnagar Metropolitan City 7-0 in the National Women’s League on Thursday.

Bimala Chaudhary, Rashmi Ghising, and Sapana Lama also got into the scoresheet in the departmental side’s win.

Thapa opened the scoring in the 17th minute and Lama made it 2-0 in the 22nd. BK scored her first six minutes after Lama’s goal. Chaudhary and Ghising scored in the 35th and 39th minutes. BK scored her second in the 50th minute and Thapa had her second four minutes later.

TAFC’s coach Raju Tamang said they were able to convert scoring opportunities which helped their cause.

“The win was also relatively easy. Biratnagar had played a good game in their earlier match but could not repeat that today,” said Tamang.

Biratnagar’s coach Paras Chaudhary was not expecting to concede so many goals against the departmental side. “Our first half was not so good. Had we played the full match like the second half, there would not be so many goals,” said Chaudhary.

The win narrows TAFC’s gap to leaders Nepal Armed Police Force Club (APF) to two points. TAFC has 22 points to APF’s 24 though the latter have a game in hand. Biratnagar lies fifth on the table.
