HUMLA: Saplings of the Chandler walnut have been brought here from Turkey.

It starts bearing fruits within two years.

Agriculture technician Sundar Rawat said that the saplings of this variety of walnut have been distributed to farmers after bringing them from Turkey.

He said the farmers in the district are attracted to cultivate the Chandler walnut as the quantity of nut is high.

He said that the saplings of walnut have been imported in the district from abroad after farmers started walnut cultivation in a commercial scale.

The sapling of walnut started entering in Humla from last year and the saplings would bear fruits this year.

Around 2,000 saplings of Chandler walnut were sold in the district this year as per the demand. There is high demand for this variety of walnut as it gives fruits in a short period, added Rawat.

Simkot rural municipality and Adanchuli rural municipality have purchased 1,000 and 500 saplings of this walnut respectively. RSS
