People felt liberated from Oli’s rule after I became PM: NC Prez Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has remarked that everyone felt liberated from the autocratic rule of CPN-UML Chair KP Oli as soon as he (Deuba) helmed the government. He viewed that his return to Prime Minister’s Office restored a semblance of peace and security in the country.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the party’s 14th general convention Friday, Prime Minister Deuba said, “Before I became Prime Minister, there was the rule of terror, autocracy and people prayed for redemption from UML Chair Oli. After I took charge of government, they all felt relieved.”

He assured to establish an NC government at all levels provided that he was re-elected as party president from the ongoing 14th general convention of the party. He remarked that the convention should ensure that tyranny would get no space in government in the days ahead.

He was also of the view that the delegates should not harbor resentment regardless of how they were elected — either through consensus or election. He stressed that the party’s internal election should not affect the upcoming general election in the country.

Deuba also sought support of the general convention delegates to ensure his re-election as that would establish NC’s government at all levels and restore a semblance of calm in the country.
