Tough nut to crack for NC to fix candidates as clock ticks down to 14th Gen Convention

KATHMANDU: With a few hours remaining before the 14th General Convention of Nepali Congress to kick off, the uncertainty over the issue of candidatures is still continuing.

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba is almost certain to contest the post of party presidency from the establishment side but the candidates for the posts of 12 office-bearers have not been yet been finalized.

Over two dozen leaders have shown interest in the posts of two vice presidents, two general secretaries and eight deputy general secretaries.

It has been a tough nut to crack for President Deuba to sort out the issue of candidacies.

Similarly, the Poudel faction has not come up with a common presidential candidate despite rigorous efforts it has been making for the last four days.

Leaders Ram Chandra Poudel, Prakash Man Singh and Dr Shekhar Koirala have been staking a claim for the post of president from the non-establishment side.

Former General Secretary Singh is stating that Ganesh Man family has only been dedicating to the party and other leaders have to give him chance this time. He is making a concept paper public at Babarmahal-based party palace today.

Likewise, Dr Shekhar Koirala has started publicity campaign since Thursday itself, claiming for the party presidency with the slogan ‘once and only this time’.

It has been difficult for Poudel to fix the issue of candidacies.
