India’s President to confer Honorary General title on Nepal’s CoAS Sharma today

KATHMANDU: President of India Ram Nath Kovind is conferring a tile of Honorary General of Indian Army on Chief of Army Staff of Nepal Prabhu Ram Sharma today.

Nepal Army Chief General Sharma will be conferred with the title amidst a special ceremony at the Office of the President this afternoon. Sharma is on a four-day official visit to India at the invitation of his Indian counterpart General Manoj Mukund Naravane.

Nepal and India have a tradition to confer an honorary general tile on each other’s army chief. India had first honored then CoAS Surendra Bahadur Shah with the honorary general title in 2026 BS.

Sharma, during his four-day official visit to India, offered floral tributes to the National Memorial of the brave martyrs and observed a guard of honor by a contingent of the Indian Army at the South Block Lounge.

It is learnt that Sharma will pay courtesy calls on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Raj Nath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaya Shankar.

Similarly, Nepal Army Chief is also scheduled to hold meetings with chiefs of the Naval Staff and Air Staff of the Indian Army. He will also hold meetings with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval among others.

CoAS Sharma who left for India leading a nine-member delegation on Tuesday morning will return home on November 12.
