UML stakes claim over chairship of Public Accounts Committee

KATHMANDU: The main opposition CPN-UML has claimed the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee.

At the committee’s meeting held in Singha Durbar Sunday, UML lawmaker Gokul Baskota said the main opposition should get the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee as per global parliamentary tradition and even Nepal’s own practice.

He was of the view that the ruling party ought to hand over the committee’s leadership in accordance with the principle of check and balance. He asserted that opposition parties across the world took charge of the Public Accounts Committee.

Committee’s Chair Bharat Shah, meanwhile, argued against Baskota’s viewpoint.
