KATHMANDU: The Secondary Education Examination (SEE) scheduled for coming May 27 and grade 12 examination slated for June 9 have been put off.

A meeting of the National Examinations Board (NEB) on Monday decided to postpone both the examinations until another decision. Board Secretary Durga Aryal informed that both the examinations have been put on hold for now with the spiral outbreak of coronavirus infection and the government direction to not conduct examinations in the current situation.

On a query when these adjourned examinations would take place, he said they would discuss the issue again and inform the public by publishing the next notice. The meeting came to a conclusion that there is no environment conducive to arrange participation of 517,000 students in the SEE examination amidst the pandemic despite preparation to conduct the exam in 2,019 examination centers across the country.

The board has formed a five-member committee under the leadership of the director-general of the Education and Human Resource Development Center, Baikuntha Aryal, to study the modality for conducting the SEE and grade 12 examinations.

The committee is said to develop a modality how to conduct examinations if the coronavirus infection continues to remain. It may be noted that the board had published the results of SEE based on the internal evaluation of the students done by the schools amidst the prevalence of pandemic. RSS
