Fourteen arrested for rhino poaching



CHITWAN: Fourteen people have been arrested on the charge of poaching the endangered one-horned rhino and selling its horn.

Eighteen other people involved in the crime are absconding, the Chitwan National Park (CNP) office said.

CNP paraded the arrested persons before the media by organizing a news conference here today. Four rhinos were killed by poachers since mid-July 2020 till mid-January 2021.

The CNP administration, the Batukdal Battalion of Nepali Army assigned for park security and the Nepal Police, Central Investigation Bureau arrested the poachers and those trafficking in rhino horn from different places of the country, CNP’s chief conservation officer Ananath Baral said.

He said 18 other people involved in poaching and trading in wildlife parts are absconding. Those arrested in the course of investigation gave information on the 18 absconding persons. RSS
