UN Assistant Secretary General calls on Foreign Affairs and Defence Ministers



KATHMANDU: The visiting United Nations Assistant Secretary General, Christian Saunders, called on Minister for Defence Dr Minendra Rijal and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Narayan Khadka separately today.

During the meeting, both the Ministers mentioned about the glorious contribution of Nepal and the Nepali Army to the UN peacekeeping force and about extensive and effective leadership role in the future. The Minister duo stressed on providing opportunities to the Nepalese peacekeepers high positions in their work areas. They expressed the commitment of Nepal’s continued support to the UN peacekeeping missions.

The UN Assistant Secretary General applauded the contribution of Nepal’s security forces in the global peacekeeping by participating in the UN peacekeeping operations.

A team led by Assistant Secretary-General Christian Saunders arrived in Nepal Monday. The team arrived in Nepal to review and inspect the reimbursement rate provided by the United Nations every four years.

UN Assistant Secretary-General Saunders held a meeting with Chief of Army Staff Genral Prabhu Ram Sharma earlier today. He was also scheduled to visit Birendra Peace Operations Training Center in Panchkhal.
