CJ Rana assigns ten benches for today amidst protests

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has assigned ten benches to hear 298 cases including habeas corpus for today.

Of them, one bench will be single while the remaining nine benches will be joint ones. The agitating judges decided not to hear any case except habeas corpus.

The SC justices, however, decided to not share bench with Chief Justice (CJ) Rana and only hear habeas corpus petitions.

The justices had been insisting that CJ Rana should agree on a graceful exit and should not conduct any hearing.

Even the Nepal Bar Association has been urging Chief Justice Rana not to sit on the bench.
