HETAUDA: Chief Minister of Bagmati Pradesh Asta Laxmi Shakya is scheduled to take a vote of confidence on Sunday (October 10).

Chief Minister Shakya is preparing to take a vote of confidence one day before the completion of one month of the party split. A letter regarding the split of the CPN-UML had been registered on September 10.

Article 188 (2) of the Constitution has a provision that the Chief Minister has to take a vote of confidence within three days if the party led by him/her splits or the party involved in the government pulls out of it.

Shakya on Friday informed in writing that she would table a proposal for confidence vote in the provincial assembly meeting, as per the provision.

Meanwhile, Shakya has recommended Bagmati Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma to call a winter session of the Provincial Assembly on Sunday. A parliamentary party meeting of the CPN-UML held on Friday morning had decided to table a proposal on October 10 for a vote of confidence.

With the CPN-UML split, Chief Minister Shakya has fallen into minority. As things stand, Shakya is unlikely to get a vote of confidence since the ruling alliance has a clear majority.
