NC Poudel faction for holding 14th general convention on scheduled date

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has stressed holding the 14th general convention on the scheduled date.

NC Central Working Committee (CWC) members, close to senior leader Poudel, held a meeting at General Secretary Shashank Koirala’s residence in Maharajgunj Monday afternoon to discuss on the upcoming 14th general convention of the party.

Leaders stood for holding the general convention as per schedule by finalizing disputes and procedures at the meeting. The NC’s 14th general convention is slated for September 1-4. The leaders are of the view that the convention should be held on time even if costs shortening procedures and ending disputes.

The NC called a CWC meeting on August 12 to discuss on the matter. The Poudel faction held a meeting today before the party’s CWC meeting. Senior leader Poudel said discussions were held to save the party’s legitimacy by holding a general convention on scheduled time.

Earlier, the faction proposed holding a special general convention in order to save the party’s legal status but that proposal was dismissed by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

In the Poudel-affiliated district president’s meeting held Monday morning, emphasis was laid on convening a special general convention. The gathering of NC district presidents started here today.
