KATHMANDU: Police has arrested an absconding convict charged on human trafficking and organized crime from Tilganga, Kathmandu metropolis-9, Thursday evening.
The arrested has been identified as Jagat Bahadur Rai alias Rajan, 38, temporarily residing in Jorpati, a permanent resident of Kankai Municipality-5, Jhapa.
Patan High Court on March 15, 2020, had sentenced Rai to 10 years in prison along with a fine of Rs 50,000 on the case. He was at large ever since.
A team deployed from Central Investigation Bureau, Maharajgunj, arrested the absconding convict.
Rai had trafficked a woman from Nepal to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on a visit visa by promising to provide her a home-based job in Oman. He had taken Rs 350,000 from the victim on February 24, 2017.
The victim had been later rescued after the victim’s family approached police and UAE based Nepali mission. The victim was found to be physically and mentally tortured on the UAE-Oman border area.
