District committees for party strengthening: UML leader Nepal

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said party organizations at the district-level have been expanded to further strengthen the party.

Talking to media persons at Biratnagar airport Friday, he said the formation of committees at the district-level was not for splitting the party. “It is for further encouraging party cadres and uniting the party.” As he said, the party was committed to ensuring good governance and improving people’s living standard by establishing norms and values of democratic federalism.

The former Prime Minister said he had a respect to the Supreme Court’s verdict and wanted the restoration of posts of all office-bearers elected before 16th May, 2018. He was referring to the Supreme Court’s announcement to revive the CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist-Center) by invalidating the move to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) through the unification of two parties on 16th May, 2018.

Responding to a query, he said the no-confidence motion introduced against the Province 1 government was withdrawn due to some compulsion. He took time to accuse the present party leadership of de-motivating party cadres and disintegrating party organizations. He promised to strengthen the party by uniting all cadres.

Later on at a programme organized by the CPN (UML) Morang district committee, Madhav Kumar Nepal said office-bearers of the UML could be expelled only through the general convention. Leader Nepal said so expressing his displeasure to the ‘unilateral’ activities of the current party leadership such as formation of committees, expansion of organizations and holding meetings.

Stating that he was visiting different districts to protect communist movement, leader Nepal shared that 65 district committees were already reformed. He shared that the national convention of 32 sister organizations would be organized soon to keep people’s faith towards the party alive.

Also speaking at the programme, leaders Jagannath Khatiwada, Jivan Ghimire, Dhanendra Basnet, Dr Deuman Sambahamphe and Mahesh Regmi, among others univocally spoke of the need to run the party as per the statute and principles.

A 325-member Morang district committee was formed under the chair of Chandrabir Rai and another 175-member Biratnagar Metropolitan Committee under the chair of Parul Chettri.
