KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party Rishi Ram Kattel has remarked that the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the unification of the CPN-UML and the Maoist Center prevented the imposition of dictatorship in the country.
A press release issued by Kattel on Tuesday said that the court decision had served a hard blow to the master plan of imposing autocracy in the country.
“The plan of the so-called communists to impose their totalitarian agenda has failed to some extent due to the verdict,” said Kattel.
Kattel said, “The decision has imbued the citizens, who were struggling against class exploitation and discrimination prevalent in the society.”
He added that the two coalition partners had forcefully registered the NCP at the start of their unification process, despite the name was already registered by him.
“They had encroached upon other’s identity,” he said, referring to the NCP party registered by him.
Kattel had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court after the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Center and registered their coalition as Nepal Communist Party (NCP) at the Election Commission.
The SC ruled in favor of Kattel, giving legitimacy to the NCP he had registered at the EC before the unification of the CPN-UML and Maoist Center.
