NC leader Sita Gurung announces candidacy for deputy general secretary

KATHMANDU: Central Working Committee member of Nepali Congress Sita Gurung has announced her candidacy for the post of deputy general secretary in the 14th General Convention of the party.

Former State Minister Gurung is considered close to President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Nepali Congress has to appoint eight deputy general secretaries from Khas-Arya, Women, Madhesi, Adivasi/Janajatis and Dalit communities under inclusiveness category.

“The number of women should be increased in the office bearers of the party. I have been working in favor of indigenous nationalities for a long time,” said Gurung, adding, “Hence, I am staking a claim for the post of deputy general secretary under the adivasi/janajati category.”

Elected as the central working committee member (CWC) through the 12th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, Gurung had secured the highest number of votes in the 13th General Convention to become the CWC member under women adivasi/janajati category.
