With two days to go before NC Gen Convention, eight leaders staking claim for leadership



KATHMANDU: The 14th General Convention of Nepali Congress is taking place in the Kathmandu Valley from Friday.

With only two days to go before the general convention, President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Shashanka Koirala, former General Secretary duo Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Prakash Man Singh, leader Dr Shekhar Koirala and another leader Gopal Man Shrestha are staking a claim for the leadership of Nepali Congress.

Similarly, leader Kalyan Gurung has also shown interest in the post of the president. Of them, General Secretary Koirala has already expressed support for senior leader Poudel.

President Deuba, Nidhi and Shrestha are in the fray for the post of president from the establishment side.

Similarly, Poudel, formal General Secretary Singh and Central Working Committee member Shekhar Koirala are in the fray for the presidential post. From the third panel, Krishna Prasad Sitaula is staking the claim for the leadership of the NC.

By organizing a press meet at Baluwatar on Monday, President Deuba publicly announced his candidacy for the post of president from the establishment side.

Nidhi and Shrestha have also been claiming for the post from the establishment side.

Poudel faction has been holding discussions to forge consensus on a common candidate.
