Ruling coalition forms 11-member coordination committee to assist government in executing duties



KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition has formed an 11-member coordination committee to assist the government to execute duties and responsibilities.

A meeting of the ruling coalition on Monday evening formed an 11-member coordination committee.

The main leaders of the coalition parties and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will comprise the 11-member coordination committee. The committee will have two members each from the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-Maoist Center, CPN-Unified Socialist Party, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha.

According to Maoist Center leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and former general secretary Krishna Sitaula have been nominated as members of the coordination committee. Likewise, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ from the Maoist Center, Madhav Kumar Nepal from the Unified Socialist and Upendra Yadav from the JSP have been recommended. The names of the remaining members would be finalized later.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki will represent the government in the committee while Chitra Bahadur KC and Durga Poudel will represent the Rastriya Janamorcha.

The committee has been tasked to assist the government in implementing the Minimum Common Program, coordinate with the government for the successful conduct of elections as per the constitution, promote and protect the constitution and democracy and institutional strengthening of state organs, security, good governance, and development, among others.

Leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that the meeting also agreed to move forward by cooperating in the election of 20 National Assembly seats that will be vacant in the next couple of months. The term of 20 NA members is coming to an end in February-March.

Meanwhile, the ruling coalition did not discuss the crisis in the judiciary in the meeting today.
