UML Chair Oli asks party lawmakers to remain silent on MCC

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has made a contradictory remark on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement saying it is a serious issue and lawmakers should keep mum on it until the agreement is tabled in the House.

The UML Chairman who used to present himself as a staunch supporter of the MCC Compact has, on Wednesday, spoke more ambiguously on Wednesday’s parliamentary party (PP) and said the lawmakers should not talk much about the compact till it is tabled.

“The MCC has now come up as a discussion and debate, don’t let you get into the discussion,” the UML Chair and PP leader said, adding, “Let the parties form an opinion, let them make arguments, and most importantly mark it that it is not our responsibility to pass MCC.”

The dual standard of the senior political leaders of the communist parties, has confused the lawmakers, youth leaders and cadres as they have not been able to discuss independently on the issue.
