Oli warns to obstruct parliament if Madhav Nepal MPs join it

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli has warned to obstruct Wednesday’s parliament session provided defecting UML lawmakers now in Madhav Kumar Nepal’s CPN-Unified Socialist party, attend the session.

Speaking at a parliamentary party meeting held in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu on Wednesday, UML Chair Oli said that the smooth running of the parliament will depend on whether the UML ‘dismissed’ lawmakers will join the parliamentary session or not.

UML had dismissed 14 lawmakers including former PM Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal alleging them of violation of party discipline.

Stating that the meeting could not start if they were present, he said, “According to the rules, the parliament cannot function in the presence of non-parliamentarians. How can we participate if the people we expelled on August 9 are present? ”

Former PM Oli’s remarks indicate that parliament is likely to go loud today.

The first meeting of the parliament is scheduled for 4.00 PM, Wednesday.
