One killed, other missing after landslide buries five houses in Palpa



KATHMANDU:  One has died and another one went missing after a landslide buried five houses in Palpa district at the wee hours on Thursday.

Forty-five-year-old Bir Bahadur Gurung has been buried to death and eight-year-old Arab Pariyar has gone missing after a landslide occurred at Gittikhani near Kalyani Basic School in Tinau rural municipality-5.

The landslides triggered by incessant rains at around 3:30 am have swept away the houses belonging to Hari Darlami, Suja Pariyar, Nar Bahadur Rana, Bir Bahadur Gurung and Bal Bahadur Pun, said District Police Office (DPO), Palpa.

The injured have been receiving treatment at Kalyani Basic School and those who were displaced by the landslides have been sheltered at the same school, said Bishnu Paudel, a local.

Meanwhile, Palpa-Butwal Highway has been disrupted due to landslides triggered by incessant rains occurring since last night.
