Kami Rita Sherpa back to Everest base camp after successful ascent

KATHMANDU: A team led by noted climber Kami Rita Sherpa which reached the top of Mount Everest on Friday evening as rope fixers for this season’s expeditions has arrived at the base camp.

The team was welcomed at the base camp this noon, said Nepal Tourism Board’s director Meera Acharya. Kami Rita had led the 12-member tope fixing team to the summit and it is his 25th successful ascent of Everest.

The present weather at Everest is reported to be favorable for climbing and most of the expedition teams have set out for the base camp.

A team including Baharain’s prince Sheikh Mohammed Hamad Mohammed Al Khalifa is in the first row of the expedition and their attempt to scale the mountain has drawn the attention of many.

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) general secretary Kul Bahadur Gurung said the expedition by a foreign dignitary would obviously be sent a positive message to the world about the country’s mountaineering. The team comprises 16 people from the Bahrain Royal Guard (Defense Force) and three Britons. RSS
