PM Oli calls emergency cabinet meeting



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called an emergency cabinet meeting on Saturday evening.

The meeting is likely to decide to bring Bir Hospital under the Ministry of Health and Population and use it as the main hospital to deal with coronavirus, a senior government official said.

“The government is planning to bring Bir Hospital under the Ministry of Health to combat the spread of COVID-19. After coming under the Ministry of Health, only COVID-19 patients will be treated in the new building of Bir Hospital,” said the official.

As per the need, the government is preparing to use 700 out of 800 beds in Bir Hospital for COVID-19 treatment.

The Ministry of Health and Population has already submitted a proposal in this regard to the Council of Ministers and the Council of Ministers will take a final call on the proposal today.

Earlier, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, while addressing the nation, had said that the new building of Bir Hospital would be turned into a COVID-19 hospital.
