China to provide Nepal additional medical supplies



KATHMANDU: The China government has pledged support of COVID-19 vaccines and other medical supplies to Nepal to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a virtual meeting with his counterparts of five South Asian countries in the last week of April had promised to immediately provide Nepal medical supplies worth Rs 92 million.

After Nepal received 400 oxygen cylinders, 10 ventilators from China via the air route, the China government now is providing additional 40 ventilators, 20 automated analyzers, 10 DR machines, 20 portable ultrasound and 30 anesthesia machines.

These medical supplies will arrive Nepal via the Tatopani checkpoint within a week.
The government is preparing to bring the medical goods earlier pledged by China in grant via the air and land routes.

Out of the Chinese grant, a wide body airbus of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is flying to Beijing on May 10 to fetch 400 oxygen cylinders, 10 ventilators. The medical goods will arrive Nepal on May 11.

The China government has promised to provide Nepal 20,000 oxygen cylinders.
