Prachanda-Nepal faction holding SC meeting at 3 pm

KATHMANDU: The Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is holding a meeting of the Standing Committee on Monday.

Leaders of the faction will “discuss in detail” the Supreme Court’s (SC) verdict on the issue of the name of the Nepal Communist Party.

The SC had on Sunday gave its verdict in favor of Rishi Ram Kattel giving the recognition to the NCP led by Kattel.

A joint bench of Justices Bam Kumar Shrestha and Kumar Regmi, after hearing the case, had issued the final verdict on Sunday.

Meanwhile, NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said Sunday’s meeting will discuss in detail and will come up with an official decision.

He also warned that the party will not accept the decision guided by ill-motifs if any.

It should be noted that the SC had issued the final verdict on the case related to the dispute surrounding the name of NCP.

With the decision, the authenticity of the NCP led by KP Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has been annulled.

According to Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the meeting is scheduled to be held at 3 pm to discuss the latest political development surfaced after the Supreme Court’s verdict on the authenticity of the name of Nepal Communist Party.

The leaders of the faction have also consulted with the legal experts after the court’s verdict.

The then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist-Center) had registered their party’s name as Nepal Communist Party at the Election Commission following their unification.

Prior to it, Nepal Communist Party had been registered under the leadership of Kattel at the EC.

On November 21, 2018, Kattel had moved the SC against the EC complaining that a similar name was registered against his party’s name.

Clause 6(E) of the Act about political parties has prohibited registration of a party with the EC if the name or election symbol matches with a party already registered with the Commission.
