Police constable held with Rs 1.1 mln bribe



KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested head constable Tara Kumari Shrestha of Metropolitan Police Circle, New Baneshwor with Rs 1.1 million in bribe.

Police have also arrested the proprietor of Chabahil-based Old Town Cafe and Pub Restaurant Anish Joshi who provided the bribe to Shrestha.

According to Bed Prasad Bhandari, the deputy spokesperson of the CIAA, Shrestha had taken the bribe assuring Joshi that she would help release a detainee doing time in the custody of Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala.

Bhandari said they are investigating the case after taking both Joshi and Shrestha under control.
