KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has given a seven-day ultimatum to both the factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to send revised reports to the Commission.

A meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya on Thursday took a decision to this effect, according to Joint Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha.

The Commission has sent separate letters addressing chairpersons of two factions of the ruling NCP KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda.

The Commission dispatched letters to both the factions for the second time following the dispute that reached the Commission after the Oli-led government dissolved the House of Representatives (HoR) on December 20.

The Commission has dispatched the letters in line with the Rule 25 (4) of the Regulations for Political Parties, 2074 BS.

“If the situation arises that no name, statute, stamp, flag and election symbol of the party can be changed, the Commission gives a seven-day deadline to the concerned groups to resend the amended details,” reads the Rule.

Both the factions have been claiming the legitimacy of the NCP. Earlier, the Commission had sent a letter to the factions on January 1.
