Ruling coalition weakening democracy: UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has accused that the ruling coalition was weakening the country’s democracy.

Speaking at a program organized by the UML Karnali Pradesh Liaison Committee in Kathmandu on Sunday, saying that the coalition was formed due to the mutual interest of being in power, Oli accused the ruling coalition of trying to weaken the country’s democracy.  Oli added the court was used against his government after security forces could not be used to oust him.

Stating that many regressive orders could come in days ahead, he said that the UML would not let the uprooting of democracy in the country. He feared that the country’s course could repeat what happening during 1960, referring to then King Mahendra Shah’s dismantling of democracy and the introduction of the partyless Panchayat system.

He clarified that the country was the first priority for the UML rather than the government.
