Mustang earns Rs 350 million selling Himalayan goats

MUSTANG: The farmers in Mustang district have earned Rs 350 million by selling Himalayan goats in Dashain and Tihar festivals this year.

A Himalayan goat is sold at Rs 35,000 on average, said veterinary hospital and livestock service centre, Mustang.

Centre chief Dandapani Sapkota informed that Mustang exported 7,000 Himalayan goats in Dashain and 3,000 in Tihar.

The goats reared in the Himalayan region are exported after quarantine clearance.

The number of export this year is however half the previous year as no such goats were brought from Tibet.

Most of the Himalayan goats are, therefore, from Mustang. However, the traders generally provide less information on the number of goats they sell, which causes problems in keeping an exact record, Sharma added.

The farmer and trader need to pay Rs 15 per Himalayan got for quarantine clearance.
