KAVRE: The Namobuddha municipality has honored mothers who have given birth to daughters with cash as an incentive.

Mothers who have given birth to a daughter through a health institution have been honored with cash under various titles as an incentive.

A total of 14 mothers who gave birth to their daughters in a health facility between July and September were honored at a function held here Wednesday. With the support of Ward No. 9, the Dapcha Health Post organized an honor program for new mothers of different wards of the municipality.

The ward No. 9 has been running a daughter birth promotion program through Dapcha Health Post for the past few years.
Mayor Tipi Sharma Timalsina handed over the money. Ward chairperson Mel Bahadur Tamang shared that the new mothers were provided Rs. 5,000 for giving birth to a daughter, Rs. 2,000 for giving birth at a health facility, Rs. 1,800 for ambulance expenses and Rs. 2,000 in case there was a referral to another health facility, and Rs. 800 for four ante-natal check-up. The ward is also providing financial assistance nutritious food for the new mother and her new born.

Mayor Timalsina said that the municipality has launched the program to honor daughters and daughters-in-law keeping in mind the fact that not only roads and infrastructure but also sensitization is indispensable.

The Dapcha health post has been upgraded to a municipal hospital with provision of additional ambulances in the city.

Deputy Mayor Ram Devi Tamang said that discrimination against daughters has been taking place in Nepali society from the very beginning. “We should create a mentality that daughters are like sons. Only after this discrimination is completely eradicated can a prosperous society be built,” she said.
