UML Chair Oli and senior leader Nepal fail to hammer out differences

Meeting yields no concrete outcome

KATHMANDU: A crucial meeting between CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal held at the Marriott Hotel in Naxal, Kathmandu on Wednesday evening ended inconclusively.

However, sources said that even though the meeting could not yield a concrete outcome, the talks were “cordial and positive”.

A leader who participated in the meeting said that no progress could be made in resolving the UML dispute as Chairman Oli did not agree on power-sharing.

The talks became inconclusive after Chairman Oli did not agree on power-sharing, the leader said.

Likewise, UML leaders Bishnu Poudel, Ishwor Pokhrel, Subash Nemwang, Bhim Rawal and Surendra Pandey also attended the meeting.

Earlier in the day, leaders attending a meeting of the UML Dispute Resolution Task Force had claimed that the disputes within the party were “almost resolved”.

Earlier on May 16, the two leaders – Oli and Nepal – had agreed to form a 10-member task force to settle the disputes in the CPN-UML.

The two leaders had also held one-on-one talks to decide the modality to converge on May 16, 2018, and move ahead united.
