SEE results to be delayed; 24 schools under scanner for giving unexpected marks

KATHMANDU: The results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) have been delayed after 24 schools across the country were found to have given ‘A’ and ‘A +’ marks to their students breaching the rules.

There was a heated discussion in the National Examination Board (NEB) meeting held on Thursday after most of the students brought ‘A’ and ‘A Plus’ even without including the practical subject.

According to sources, schools in all the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley were found to have given ‘A’ and ‘A Plus’ marks to most of their students, while schools in eight districts in the Terai had also given arbitrary marks to their students.

A meeting of the NEB, which is scheduled to publish the results this week, has decided to immediately investigate the situation in 24 schools.

Talking to Khabarhub, an official of the NEB said that the publication of the results would be delayed due to the unnatural marks given to most of the students.

The NEB had made a new provision for this year’s examination that if more than 80 marks have to be given, the reason should be stated. Mostly private schools and some renowned government schools were found to have given marks to their students by violating the rules.

A total of 385,000 examinees had filled out forms for the SEE this year.
