Lumbini opposition calls for appointing Kul Prasad KC as Chief Minister

They say Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel lacks majority to stay in power

KATHMANDU: The four opposition parties in the Lumbini Provincial Assembly (PA) have demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel and the appointment of coalition candidate Kul Prasad KC as the Chief Minister.

The Nepali Congress (NC), the CPN-Maoist Center, the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and the Rastriya Janamorcha held a joint press conference Thursday and reiterated their position that Chief Minister Pokharel’s re-appointment was unconstitutional.

The four parties demand convening a special session of Lumbini PA immediately and appointing Om Prasad KC as the chief minister.

According to the opposition alliance, out of the 79 members in PA, 41 support KC and CM Pokharel had only 38 members supporting him.
