Govt makes public status of medical infrastructure to tackle COVID-19



KATHMANDU: The government has disclosed the status of existing health infrastructure in the country in the face of second wave of coronavirus pandemic.

There are about 20,000 beds, 1,700 ICUs, and 700 ventilators for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the country, according to the government.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, there are 472 hospitals, 19,882 beds, 1,714 ICUs, and 692 ventilators in the country for the treatment of coronavirus-infected persons.

Similarly, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, quoting the Ministry of Health and Population, informed that as many as 31 hospitals have their own oxygen plants, and 2,549 cylinders could be filled on a daily basis from those oxygen plants.

Accordingly, three hospitals have tanks in which liquid oxygen can be filled and, about 6,288 oxygen cylinders are in use in health facilities and the average daily oxygen intake is 1,411.5 liters in the country.
