Minister Gurung urges media not to disseminate misleading news



KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung has urged mass media not to publish and disseminate misleading information about COVID-19.

At a discussion organized here today by the ministry, government spokesperson Gurung asked the media to impart factual and reliable news expressing concern on the dissemination of news in a way to create terror among the public of late.

“This is the time to work in positive thinking. But, there is a flow of negative news about COVID. Impart positive message for humanitarian cause”, Minster Gurung said, directing Gorkhapatra, Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Radio Nepal, and Nepal Television to disseminate awareness-raising positive news and program about COVID-19.

According to the minister, the ministry is set to form a secretariat comprising the participation of concerned organizations to chart out a plan on coronavirus awareness news and program.

Consultations would also be made with media in formulating the policy on COVID-19 elimination, he added.

On the occasion, Ministry Secretary Hari Prasad Basyal urged all media to prevent the flow of misinformation and misleading news about the government’s positive actions.

Meanwhile, Minister Gurung also urged the Kathmandu metropolis to zero in on conducting public sensitization program in a way to manage the COVID-19 crisis.

Minster Gurung made this request to Kathmandu Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya in view of an increasing spike of coronavirus-related cases in Kathmandu. RSS
