PCN appeals media to be responsible in disseminating news

KATHMANDU: Press Council Nepal(PCN) has appealed to mass communication media, media-persons, social networking sites and its users to disseminate news materials in a civilized, decent and responsible way.

It also urged the media persons to maintain public decorum and social harmony, and respect self-esteem of persons while discharging their duty.

In a statement issued today, the press ombudsman body urged them not to use indecent language used at meeting and assemblies (by political party leaders or others) and not to twist news that would defame an institution, persons and citizens.

Disseminating news materials that would harm social harmony is against the code of conducts of journalists, reads the statement.
